EXPERIENCE
Whether governed by the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 or the Mine Health & Safety Act 29 of 1996 our various Snake Handling courses ensure compliance with these laws by mitigating against the risk of snakebites through training which ultimately leads to employee safety and conservation efforts.
Being actively involved in the Emergency Medical Services as well as the Health and Safety sectors we can offer our clients the most current and best practice methods and theory in our training solutions. Being registered professionals, our instructors go through various courses regularly to maintain these registrations. APD was actively involved in developing and publishing the latest Prehospital Snakebite Management Protocols in the South African Medical Journal in 2023!
Every reasonable step has been taken to ensure a safe learning environment when handling some of the deadliest snakes Africa has to offer! However, medical equipment is on standby, and our instructors have adequate training and experience to deal with any unfortunate event related to the training event.
Our instructors are both Paramedics registered with the HPCSA, Health & Safety Officers registered with SAIOSH, qualified Instructors registered with various SETA bodies, and have over 40 years combined experience working with venomous snakes. Our training material has been assessed and approved by the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Emergency Medical Care.
Not only do we provide some of the best pricing available in South Africa, but we strive to give value back to our clients and delegates. Each delegate will receive an A5 colour Training Manual, an Electronic Certificate, an A6 Snakebite and ID Flipper Chart, as well as an A6 Snakes in the Workplace Procedures (including South African Legislation) Flipper Chart!
Our Snake Identification, Handling & Snakebite Treatment courses have been accredited/endorsed by the University of Johannesburg (equivalent to HPCSA accreditation), the South African Veterinary Council, the Pest Control Industries Professional Council, the National Federation of Tourist Guides and Affiliates, the Gauteng Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa. Our Snake courses which do not involve practical snake handling, are also endorsed by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa.

Do we use live snakes?
We keep a number of indigenous snakes for training purposes. Most of the snakes have been purchased as captive bred hatchlings and grown out in our facility. As part of conservation measures do not support the collection of wild snakes for training purposes.
For the snake handling training course we will select the venomous snakes most suitable to your area to give delegates the best experience.
